Vars inside symbols?

Hi, I have a dynamic text with a variable. The text is inside a symbol. But when I make modifications to the var, for example a hittest, it doesn't change. It only works when I take the text out of the symbol. Can anyone tell me how to do this?

I hate to point you somewhere else, but we dont have very many flash people on these boards. Definately check out www.kirupa.com forums for flash help.

You have to use dot notation (if I understand what you are saying).

So it would need to be

var.hittest(_root.SYMBOLTEXTISIN.TEXT)
