I'm actually sadly sexist when it comes to this type of stuff. No real female figures I have in high regard, actually.

Ones I enjoy, musically at least, would be all the female singer-songwriters. The only ones that come to mind right now would be Tori Amos, Regina Spektor, and Sarah McLachlan...
