Because more and more people had to add their little opinion - like this one. Obviously you are not going to have smaller replies when more people critcize your intentions. There are more defenses to stand by, more points to be clarified or otherwise restated multiple times, and more depth towards the remarks as you go. Like, any decent conversation starts with a greeting, like "hello", then progressively gets bigger. But I don't need to tell you that; you already knew that.
