Yoooooooooooooooooo!
In the second one, I like the texture created from the trees or whatever in the background (soft light? I dunno). And the red border goes with the "Red Lamp" yaddah yaddah... But I'm not too keen on the composition. Usually when things are in the direct center, it just comes out boring. The relevant point here is that the lamp box is bordered fairly evenly on all sides by the background. The centered composition of the horse in the third picture works because the horse isn't surrounded by, stuff (it isnt a geometric shape, either). The subject (the horse) is in the center, but your eyes are not disctracted by other textures and people and whatever. THE POINT BEING, some croppage could be in order for the lamp picture.
In the horse picture, as well as the first picture, there seems to be a significant increase in contrast from what I assume was a color negative. The disadvantage to too much contrast is that you lose details in the highlights and shadows (such as under the horse, in the bottom left). BUT, this is not to be confused with simply exposing the negative properly for the subject and not the shadows.
THE LAST PICTURE I LIKE BECAUSE I KNOW WHAT MOST OF IT IS. Rusted car parts. The contrast between the green and rusted steel is very nice, but remember the loss of details. Conveniently enough, there doesn't seem to be too much of this, except for the top right corner and some of the blades of grass that I imagine were pretty bright due to sunlight. And the composition is good, but it seems just a little too fuzzy for my taste, possibly a soft light technique? Maye just a little too fuzzy.
Btw, the last picture could be a lamp, I dont know. Either way, tis good picture but the fuzzyness still makes me think I have that sleep stuff in my eye from when I wake up.
I think the high contrast works for the first picture though, simply because there isn't a whole lot of, um, shape and stuff to it, so some simplicity is in order.
