I got Illustrator CS, and I have no idea what the hell I'm doing, this is a reaaaaally noob design.

Simplistic design on the cowboy, good stuff; I think you could modify it a little further to get it perfect.
As for the first thing, besides some other things that I dont really know, I would suggest croppping it differently just to get the center blob, out of the center.
