Anyone know what this shit is?

It starts with an L and i cant remember the name of it. Its a clear liquid, and what it does is you can paint it on over your colored pencil sketch or your oil based pastels and it'll essentially melt the pastel and wax in the pencil and make it blend smoother? I've been using it a lot at school but im out at home and my mom threw the damn bottle away.

And the real question: Have you ever experimented with different medians, and if you have did you find it helpful? I dont really care if i get a shitty result so much, because im starting to learn newer shit when i use different items.

I used to use somthing like that, but I ran out and couldnt find any, so I used hairspray and it worked fine, I'm pretty sure the main purpose is to prevent smudging after the work is complete.

I experimnt with different medians all the time, I love it. Photoshop being one of them. I'm primarily a video production guy, but I like to use experience used from PS to plan out scene compisitions and such.
