Thanks captain obvious.

Its becuase our tuts finally got indexed at g-t, two of them in fact. Also, akule submitted us to google, and i submitted our archive to google. Which actually will increase our traffic dramatically. More tuts will be released on g-t soon, like within 15 minutes hopefully, so everything should turn out for the best.

Another reason is, i added a member login / register dhtml popup that stays for 15 seconds on teh screen. Its a good way to get people to register is to throw it in thier face at every page they look at.

it may seem harsh. But when you look at the overall picture, not everyone is going to sign up because of it. Most people will either say "fuck it" and leave, or wait and let it close. The more people who sign up, it makes us look like a bigger community, which is what we need. yesterday there was a total of 60 registrations, before that, the most registrations in a day was 8 or something like that.

It's also a good way to get people to sign in if they already have an account. It's our little guard dog of sorts

"The more people who sign up, it makes us look like a bigger community"....because you look like a bigger community doesn't mean you are...therefore that is pointless. if people sign up its not gonna be because of your pop up thing or because you have alot of members. it will be because of the content. i would bet not even half of the members here are even active. but they signed up because they want to read a tut. not tryin to bash you or anything just expressing my opinion

Being the owner and creator of this place, the goal i had in mind was a large community (active.... community) of people who either knew graphics or were trying to learn. The sad part is few people are active. But to acheive the goals we have, we need to make this small sacrifice because a lot of communities wont affiliate with us because of our size. The pop up will be removed eventually, but like i said its a small sacrifice. I beleive strongly in quality posters, not quantity. I routinely send out emails to our members to remind them to post.

I think what sicloan said came out a little wrong.

You have a thing or two to learn about online communitys. I as well as many other will only join a site if it has a lot of members/posts. Would you want to go to some board that has say 10 members or so or a board with 10,000 members. Now the forum with only 10 members might have some good tutorials and the one with 10,000 might not have as many. What you have to understand is that not everyone is just looking for some tutorials. They are looking for a good graphic community and the more members the better. Even if it is not a true amount it helps get members to join. They join and become active and then more join and become active and you now have a chain. I will tell you right now that the only reason I joined this site is because I know a lot of people here. If I had come across it anywhere else I probably would not have even signed up because there are not enough members here.

Well.. popups may help people to join, of course, some may bitch about it and just leave, but others, who may be dedicated to GFX, will join either way.

Like akule said, it will be removed soon. I see no problem with it atm. And it is true, i myself went to BF for the hacks through google. I found a topic i liked and decided to sign up to add to the discussion.

All i want by the pop up is to get a basis for what our community will be founded on. And WhiteAngel is right, this forum was started on people coming from BF, people in the graphics section who were looking for an alternative.
