Why I think they suck: They prance around on stage in little outfits (so right away you can tell they're a stupid gimmick band) their music is uninspired and uncreative (it's nothing but random power chords) and their lyrics are nothing but angry/depressed white-boy gibberish.

Dr. de Seis brings up a good point...
many "nu metal" bands are very, well, "cookie-cutter".
some can create some very good music, in my opinion, but then they throw screaming lyrics on top of some great music and totally screw up everything.

on a different note, have you guys/gals ever noticed how athiest people talk about god more than anyone else?

trust me, I hardly talk about god compared to others I know. I was only speaking my mind. So kill me.

As far as nu-metal, I like Mushroomhead, Static-X, etc (Yes, even Korn). But nu-metal is another one of those genres where no one knows what it is. It isn't a real genre imo....but merely something people say to differ it from other types of metal. Like emo. No one really knows what is emo and what isn't. It's just there. I'm dont think you should jump to say "aww man, Nu-metal sucks! wtf is that crap!", just because you dislike Slipknot.

I'll send you some decent Mushrromhead and Static-X, and if you still don't like it, there's no hope for you lol

People consider Linkin Park nu-metal. IN MY OPINION, Linkin park was actually half decent until the did a collab with Jay-Z. I'll never look back at LP. gayness.....

I like Static X because they have such a unique sound, I can look past the fact that their lyrics seem random most of the time. Mushroom head has a few good songs, mainly their singles, but their other stuff just gets pretentious (that one song on XX, Xeroxed I think, just awful, "Fall from grace, false Messiah..." blah blah blah). I also agree, Renzo, Deftones are great.

to be honest w/ u, i just listen to whatever makes me happy...and whatever i can work to, whether it's techno, pop-punk "crap", screamo-emo...or whatever it's called...or just slow and thoughtful music
to me, music is about the emotion that a song can evoke and whether that just means allowing the beat to kind of just lift me up and make me happy...or a song with amazing and powerful lyrics that just move me...

No, that's not what I listen to, that's just as much hard rock as I'm willing to tolerate. Otherwise, I listen to practically anything that sounds good and isn't manufactured music, therefore I don't limit myself to any bands in particular. I'll edit this with a link to my favorites list later.

I like songs that sound good and actually mean something. I challenge you to show me any Slipknot lyrics that have any deeper meaning that could actually be applied to life. Simon and Garfunkle sung a good example of a great song, "Sounds of Silence":

See? See how you can actually think about what they were trying to say? See how they have a message behind their music? Where is that message in Slipknot? It's nowhere, because bands fucking suck these days. Singing "Get this or die" 26 times in a row isn't them singing about the duality of Man, it's them sucking dick. (Coincidentally, their song "Duality" doesn't even relate to any duality whatsoever, not even a 2 sided personality.)

I too, am no big fan of one genre. There are way to many good songs in other genre's that cant be ignored. I am a rap fan, and i feel alot of rap songs do have meaning. But those definately arent the mainstream crap.

As for Nu-Metal... alot of it is crap. Just because you can scream some lame lyrics at the top of their lungs does not make it emotional. The words have to convey emotion, not the tone / pitch of the singing. So yeah, i totally agree with Dr. De Sies. Alot of bands are good, but the main stream rap / metal or whatever all blow.

Well, I for one hate 50 Cent, G Unit, Lil John and The Ying Yang Twins, and many more
They are notorious for shitty mainstream rap (MY opinion)

The only rap songs I really like are the songs with rap from Gorillaz. Listen to Clint Eastwood if you havent already. That IS, dare I say, good rap. So is stuff like Quarashi and E. Town Concrete.

But metal and forms of rock, alternative, etc etc are still soooo much better than any rap imo

people listen to bands because they feel like they have some kind of relation with whats being said. I cant judge other bands on there music but i can give a reason to why my personally beliefs and why they may not coincide with my ideal music or genre. I dont need to justify the music/genre i listen to, because thats trying to set an image for myself on how i want to appear. I dont need to put down other bands because they dont apply to me. The ideal that ones beliefs are any better than anyone else's is somewhat sad, because we will all act differently. This is what makes everyone unique in there way and i see no reason to put down there ideals over mine.
