Okay well long story short my computer died beucase my dad overloaded the breaker and i didnt have a good enough surge protector.

Motherboard &/or processor are shot. My computer wont boot so i have been trying to figure out the culprit for almost 2 days now. If i can narrow it down to my motherboard i will be purchasing a new one tomorrow. If its the processor i will be doing a major upgrade which includes selling some of my current parts on ebay / classifieds. SO i dont know how long it will take, but my best bet is that my machine will be up and running again in 1 weeks time... hopefully. That is if i only have to purchase a new mobo. If its a new system we could be talking 2-3 weeks so i get all the money i need.

I will not be offline, beucase i have other computers i can use to access the internet. I just wont be on here that often. Maybe once a day max.

well that sucks. Once i get some more cash i'm gonna buy a massive surge protector and batterybackup combo thing, seeing as how there was a huge storm just a couple days ago.

If you do have to upgrade though, what are you going to upgrade from, and to what?

I currently have 2 possibilities.. 1 cheaper than the other.

Intel side:
Intel 640 to 660, like 3.2 to 3.6 ghz range. $200 - $500
Asus p5wd2 ~$190
OCZ powerstream 500w PSU or fortune 500w... (because that mobo has the 24 pin connector and my current psu only has 20 pin.) = $150?
1 gig DDR2 800 ram... gotta pick this shit out, dunno what to buy yet = ~$180 - 220
probably a pci-express 6800gt ~ $200

total: $1200 ish... dunno havent picked out all the parts..

AMD side:
AMD 64 3200+ venice core = $180
DFI lanparty NF4 ultra-d = $125
6800 gt ~ $200
new psu... = $150?

total = - ~$700 ish

Stuff to sell for intel:
OCZ 1 gig (2x512) Platinum REV 2 = ~$140
BFG 6800 gt OC AGP = ~$280
Intel 2.6c 800 fsb (if it works, still have to test) = ~$100 maybe
Ultra X-connect 500w psu = $50 maybe
GIEL 1 gig value ram = $80

total: + ~$650

AMD stuff to sell:

I currently have $590 in the bank. $100 more for adsense coming in the next couple weeks. so thats ~$700. Then i have $350 in checks / cash i have to deposit. So thats about $1000 i have in the bank, plus whatever i get from selling my parts. If i can get what im asking for the parts i need to sell, i can easily upgrade. I would love to get the intel system becuase i do a lot of multitasking, although with the AMD system i wouldnt need to buy new ram. Even though DDR2 does look very promising. Plus the upgrade path on the intel looks more promising with its ddr2 and pci express.

Yeah, i may be on more than i thought. i setup my server as my main rig for the time being.

Sucks being on a PIII 1 ghz with 256 mb ram and 8 gb hd!

So, i think im sitting on about $1200 price tag once i figure out the ram and graphics card. This leaves me with $450 to upgrade whatever. I May through in a nice sound card as well if i get what im asking for my parts. If not, i may get a faster processor, like a 650 = $300, or a 660 = $400. If i can get my hands on a 660 in the 400 range i may swing that. which would still leave me with $200 to upgrade other parts unless i get a nice graphics card.
