Hello! This is my first post here..I had been looking for a site that showcased cool desktop designs, and I found this one.
My desktop is a bit unusual...I used Photoshop on a picture of glass cubes to colorize some of the cubes in the image...then I isolated the images of several icons, giving them transparent backgrounds, then distorting them to look as though they are part of the cube I place them onto. The icons are all actually part of the wallpaper.
My next step was to tweat the registry to make the shortcut arrows go away...move the icons for the programs and folders into position above their icons pictured on the wallpaper, use the old "0160" renaming trick to give them all blank names, and created a transparent icon in Photoshop to serve as the icon for all of the shortcuts. The recycle bin, of course, needed two icons...one is the same transparent one that they all are using (empty bin), the other is the same thing but with a piece of paper that looks like it's in the garbage can (full bin)...then I just positioned the full bin icon over the can so that the paper looks like it's in the can.
In the end, you see only the icons as they look as part of the wallpaper, but can still click them since the shortcuts themselves, though invisible, are positioned over the icons. I kept the original Photoshop file too, so I can easily add more icons to the wallpaper (as well as colorize more cubes) anytime I may need to.
