Viva la revolucion!

Castro has fallen! D:

Will probably be on the news by the time you read this, it just happened. My friend Gimpo told me about it. He's Cuban.

Here's our convo, so you can get a Cuban's POV:

11:57:17 PM burningcalavera: Castro has fallen!
11:57:36 PM bit18986244: And the Kakshi Gaiden OVA is truly released this time! D:
11:58:02 PM bit18986244: Holy shit...you're not lying.
11:58:06 PM bit18986244: o_0
11:59:16 PM burningcalavera: The Revolution is coming
11:59:31 PM bit18986244: You're Argentinan (sp?) though, right? Where do you fit into this?
11:59:49 PM burningcalavera: I'm part Argentine
11:59:55 PM burningcalavera: I'm part Cuban
12:00:06 AM bit18986244: oh, and by the way, you promised me a revolution by the end of this year a LONG time ago, when the PS3 launches. You better deliver.
12:01:39 AM bit18986244: Wait, he "temporarily relinquished his presidential powers to his brother Raul". Doesn't sound too hopeful.
12:03:53 AM burningcalavera: Imagine the Cuban people, after 50 years of having to see that bastard control Cuba. Now he is weak, dying. 50 Years worth of Cuban expansion on all facets of business, expanding our resources, waiting patiently
12:03:59 AM burningcalavera: nothing is going to stop us now
12:04:07 AM burningcalavera: the Fury is coming
12:04:10 AM burningcalavera: The Revolution man
12:06:31 AM bit18986244: Wait, wait, wait. If their is a revolution, this means a shortage of cubans in Florida. This is not good! What will happen to all the workers of the good jobs! Like...like...dishwashing! Or...picking up fruit!!? This will be a disaster to OUR economy.
12:07:15 AM burningcalavera: Cubans aren't Mexicans
12:07:36 AM bit18986244: And I live in Florida. They're all the way up to Orlando by now!
12:08:03 AM bit18986244: Have you seen that movie about the mexicans disappearing for a day? I assume you have. That was..weird.
12:08:42 AM bit18986244: can't remember the name, but it was basically as straight forward as The Day Mexicans Disappeared.
12:08:51 AM bit18986244: A Day Without Mexicans maybe
12:09:31 AM burningcalavera: Cuban's are different from other nationalities who came to this country, Cuban's came to America because of political persecution, most people who come here from other countries are poorly educated, and come here for job opportunities. Cuban's who came here came with full skills necessary to succeed in society, but came here because no choice was available to them in Cuba. Hence we were able to penetrate all facets of the economy in our 1st and 2nd generations
12:10:30 AM burningcalavera: Italians, Irish, Germans and other nationalities, were treated like trash for hundreds of years until they were finally accepted
12:10:49 AM burningcalavera: Cubans on the other hand assimilated very quickly
12:11:11 AM burningcalavera: unlike other hispanics who don't share the political strife that we do
12:11:13 AM bit18986244: I have nothing against Mexicans or Cubans. I was more just wasting time with you. I really don't care for the issue.

I've just seen so many punks with the Che sign as a sticker or a button on their backpack, and know he worked with Fidel (right?). So hypocricy (if I'm right?) like that pisses me off and I ignore it
12:11:20 AM burningcalavera: Mexican's fucking suck
12:12:16 AM burningcalavera: Che Guevara was an argentine communist revolutionary who helped put Fidel in power, but he was a killer and a fanatic who died brutally in Bolivia
12:12:18 AM bit18986244: Ok, wasn't sure if you would mind if I said that. yes, they do. I just didn't want to offend you. I have no problems with Argentine, since doctor's from there...kinda. And Cuba, because I actually know nothing about Cuba.
12:12:31 AM bit18986244: *they do suck.
12:12:51 AM burningcalavera: Cubans loath Castro and Che Guevara
12:13:09 AM burningcalavera: most people who wear Che t-shirts don't know how many innocent people he killed because people didn't agree with his communist ideals
12:13:19 AM burningcalavera: if you didn't believe in communism, then you had to die
12:13:28 AM bit18986244: I've seen wannabe punks wear the sign of that painting, who know nothing about what it means. So yeah, I don't care for it at all. Even if it's for a small reason like that.
12:13:57 AM bit18986244: it meaning communism and the situation in Cuba (with me disagreeing with Che and Fidel)
12:14:51 AM burningcalavera: Che died the way he should have died, begging for his life
12:15:03 AM burningcalavera: like a coward
12:18:47 AM bit18986244: So, sorry I'm ignorant about the subject, but they just don't teach Cuban history in schools like they used to. What exactly would a revolution entail?
12:20:00 AM burningcalavera: Modern Revolutions will probably have political pressure from the Cubans in Miami aswell as successful Cubans around the world, pushing for the US to intervene should Fidel die.
12:21:13 AM bit18986244: But what would happen as a result? Just people being free?

I honestly know very little about the subject.
12:21:19 AM bit18986244: very, very little
12:21:30 AM burningcalavera: well there are several things that could happen
12:21:53 AM burningcalavera: if the revolution fails, there will most likely be a dictatorship under Raul Castro or an associate
12:22:23 AM burningcalavera: if the revolution succeeds, then either there will be a state of restlessness in Cuba without a government, which is unlikely
12:22:36 AM burningcalavera: another scenario is that there will be US occupation in Cuba
12:22:39 AM burningcalavera: which would be fine with me
12:22:52 AM burningcalavera: after that there could be several scenarios afterwards
12:23:06 AM burningcalavera: we could end up like Puerto Rico
12:23:18 AM burningcalavera: or we could end up as a free Country with a democracy
12:23:19 AM burningcalavera: or
12:23:27 AM burningcalavera: we could end up as a US state
12:23:35 AM burningcalavera: which was what should have been done originally
12:23:41 AM bit18986244: Would Cubans really want to be like Puerto Rico though? I mean, wouldn't they want to keep their own identity, and not be "American"?
12:24:16 AM burningcalavera: Cuban's haven't been Cuban's for 50 years
12:24:39 AM bit18986244: I figured they'd at least want the chance to try and be though. Then again, not my country.
12:25:30 AM burningcalavera: I personally want to see Cuba free, thats really it
12:25:37 AM burningcalavera: I don't care how
12:26:08 AM burningcalavera: freedom to me isn't being a country, its being able to do what you want, being able to get the job you want, speak your mind, and vote for your greedy corrupt politician
12:27:13 AM bit18986244: nice philosophy, but then, don't YOU already have that?

Just curious, do you have family/friends there or something? Or just Cuban pride?
12:27:33 AM burningcalavera: I had family there
12:27:46 AM burningcalavera: I don't really have any attachment to Cuba, so I can't say I have cuban pride
12:27:51 AM burningcalavera: I just want to see that bastard die
12:28:05 AM burningcalavera: for everything his fucking regime did to my famil
12:28:07 AM burningcalavera: family*
12:29:05 AM bit18986244: yeah, I understand. Well, um...good luck? Don't know what else to say. Least I learned something.
12:30:14 AM burningcalavera: good luck to me?
12:30:25 AM bit18986244: Or at least to what you want.
12:30:26 AM burningcalavera: I'm resting comfortably in my NYC apartment
12:30:34 AM bit18986244: To Cubans then.
12:30:48 AM burningcalavera: yeah to Cubans, they could use a taste of freedom
12:31:02 AM burningcalavera: maybe we'll see a Cuban MLB team
12:31:24 AM bit18986244: Now that would be interesting.
12:31:29 AM burningcalavera: Cuba has a very rich history in baseball, it would be good to see
12:31:36 AM burningcalavera: but a real Cuban baseball team
12:31:47 AM burningcalavera: not Castro's Baseball Team which played in the WBC
12:32:05 AM bit18986244: Yeah, I didn't see that, just heard about it. How'd they do anyways?
12:32:15 AM burningcalavera: they made it to the finals
12:32:19 AM burningcalavera: lost to Japan
12:33:20 AM bit18986244: but the players were just loyal to FIdel then? He wouldn't pick people if they weren't totally for him, right? (But then he'd just kill them if they were openly opposed, right?)
12:33:41 AM burningcalavera: you can't openly speak out against the government
12:33:46 AM burningcalavera: they wouldn't kill the baseball star
12:33:50 AM burningcalavera: they'd kidnap his family
12:34:09 AM burningcalavera: the baseball star would be too valuable to kill
12:34:20 AM bit18986244: ...Holy shit.
12:34:41 AM burningcalavera: dude, I never got to know one half of my family because of him
12:34:54 AM burningcalavera: I did alot of researching on my family, and discovered things I didn't want to know
12:34:57 AM burningcalavera: horror stories
12:35:11 AM burningcalavera: while I have no links or much Cuban "pride"
12:35:20 AM burningcalavera: nothing would please me more than to see that fucker die
12:35:29 AM bit18986244: too horrible to mention? Just because I don't know what type of stories you can find, I'm curious.
12:35:41 AM burningcalavera: nothing I'd want to divulge
12:36:37 AM bit18986244: like, lusvell told me he saw his grandfather's tongue and eyes ripped out when he was a kid, during the Civil War in Guatemala. Stuff like that, or different? That's all I'll ask.
12:37:19 AM burningcalavera: if it were just that I probably wouldn't have had to research it so much
12:37:26 AM burningcalavera: its much worse than that though
12:37:28 AM burningcalavera: suffice to say
12:37:39 AM burningcalavera: I only got to meet one family member from that side
12:37:51 AM burningcalavera: they were the last one left
12:37:59 AM bit18986244: Christ...
12:38:20 AM burningcalavera: yeah, my family weren't Joe Blows in Cuba
12:38:44 AM burningcalavera: my grandmother was a singer there, who already had a record deal and worked for a label
12:38:56 AM bit18986244: so big political speakers against the government I'm presuming...
12:38:59 AM burningcalavera: while my grandfather was a top journalist and worked under the head of communications
12:39:34 AM burningcalavera: when Castros regime hit, both my grandmother and my grandfather, were adamantly against the regime
12:40:19 AM burningcalavera: my father managed to make it here thanks to my great-uncle Willie Miranda, who was an ex-Yankee short stop in the 50s
12:40:48 AM burningcalavera: my grandfather lived long enough to know I was born but not long enough for me to get to know him
12:40:57 AM burningcalavera: I met my grandmother briefly before she died
12:41:09 AM bit18986244: That was the one person?
12:41:09 AM burningcalavera: my Uncle died before I got a chance to know him, due to insanity
12:41:21 AM burningcalavera: yeah
12:42:02 AM bit18986244: I really don't know what to say. I mean, Hell, I had no idea there was this much history to a person... Always took it for granted I guess.
12:42:21 AM burningcalavera: Worlds change
12:42:54 AM burningcalavera: here they are a up and coming, successful, healthy and happy family, and a year changed everything
12:43:22 AM burningcalavera: my father made something of himself of course, now a professor at Columbia U.
12:43:33 AM burningcalavera: but I don't speak to him much
12:44:05 AM bit18986244: Doesn't sound like family hatred is the reason, what with all that...?
12:44:11 AM bit18986244: I'm sure you've heard of the comic Maus: My Father Bleeds History, right?

Your story reminds me of that, in the way that I just had no idea there could be this much stuff about someone.
12:44:24 AM bit18986244: no problem if you don't want to talk about it, I'm just bored, and this is so interesting
12:44:34 AM burningcalavera: not much to it
12:44:48 AM burningcalavera: one half of my family has a very long and branched out family tree in Argentina
12:45:01 AM burningcalavera: and another was decimated by tyranny and is left with just my father, and myself
12:46:01 AM bit18986244: ...Wow. That's all I can say.

and this is only one family...
12:46:14 AM burningcalavera: hm?
12:46:55 AM bit18986244: I mean, theres that much history, that many troubles, and this is only ONE story. I'm sure others have gone through the same, and I feel bad reading about just ONE. Never really thought about it before, that's all.
12:47:13 AM burningcalavera: yeah well imagine
12:47:19 AM burningcalavera: Cuba is a country of 14 million
12:47:33 AM burningcalavera: but there are that much outside of Cuba
12:47:40 AM burningcalavera: who trace to Cuba
12:47:43 AM burningcalavera: imagine the stories they have
12:47:57 AM burningcalavera: Communism did all of this
12:48:07 AM bit18986244: Yeah. That's what I was thinking. That's...horrible.
12:48:33 AM burningcalavera: some Utopia huh?
12:51:51 AM burningcalavera: personally I see it from an outside perspective
12:51:58 AM burningcalavera: never getting to know these people
12:52:01 AM burningcalavera: its hard to be attached to them
12:52:16 AM burningcalavera: but there is also a bit of anger that I never got a chance to know them
12:52:31 AM burningcalavera: so I have no love for Castro obviously
12:54:15 AM bit18986244: Well, I don't know what to say, I mean, sorry, even if you aren't too emotionally attached to them, that still is horrible there's just that many people you'll never know. Yeah, definitely hope he burns soon.
12:55:24 AM burningcalavera: well there are two cousins I know that are for all I know still alive
12:55:33 AM burningcalavera: they were stolen by my uncles wife in the middle of the night
12:55:36 AM burningcalavera: its what lead to his insanity
12:55:55 AM bit18986244: his WIFE?
12:55:58 AM burningcalavera: yeah
12:56:06 AM burningcalavera: she made a deal with the governement
12:56:19 AM burningcalavera: she would leave with the two kids in the middle of the night
12:56:20 AM burningcalavera: he woke up
12:56:24 AM burningcalavera: found them all gone
12:56:28 AM burningcalavera: no knowledge of what happened
12:56:49 AM bit18986244: do you have any idea what the deal was though?
12:56:56 AM burningcalavera: yeah, they got to leave
12:56:59 AM burningcalavera: but he had to stay
12:57:09 AM burningcalavera: since he was a prospective olympic calibur weight lifter
12:57:20 AM burningcalavera: he wasn't in the discussion
12:57:31 AM burningcalavera: guess it was one of those "surprise" divorces
12:59:06 AM bit18986244: that's horrible.
12:59:17 AM bit18986244: again, feel dumb not being able to say more, wish I could...
12:59:31 AM burningcalavera: what is there to say? I don't really care about any of that
12:59:44 AM burningcalavera: life is what it is
1:00:03 AM bit18986244: Well, you've just told so much about your past, all this stuff, and all I have been doing is ""
1:00:14 AM burningcalavera: I didn't tell you a thing about my past
1:00:28 AM bit18986244: Your family's then.
1:00:49 AM burningcalavera: the one that no longer exists
1:00:50 AM burningcalavera: yeah

Re: Viva la revolucion!

Wow.... There's really no way you can respond to something like that.

At least i wasn't COMPLETELY ignorant of the situation down there. I knew about Che's past and don't really view him as a symbol of anything good and never have.

So much hatred in this world of ours...

Yeah I have some relatives in cuba, but they are all ghosts.

Because they are dead.

I will not say how.

You are but a child with virgin ears.

Please, hold your sympathy back, I am far too tough and in control of my feeling to give two shits about them.

I don't know man, when people start talking non-chalantly about how their family being slaughtered with some 14 year old stranger who lives 2000 miles away...

I don't I guess I would just react to what's happened in Gimpo's life a lot differently than he has.

I don't want to say you don't know Gimpo the way I do, because that would be arrogant of me. But I think he was really glad Castro was in the hospital. I mean, hell, he IM'd me (one of the few people online last night..you assholes <_<), when we haven't even talked in almost a year. I think he definitely cares about the situation. But it's more excitement for him. Like a reason to go out and have a beer or fuck a Cuban.

On a random note: I have a friend who's semi-brother died in childbirth. He jokes about it, he doesn't care, because he never knew him and didn't even want a brother. Heartless as that sounds..well, yeah. And this friend likes to write poetry and listen to COLDPLAY. You get the idea, that thought process actually goes on in real life. POV perspectives, I guess.

wait,wait,wait i r confuzzled. I think I actually agreed with you? Huh, did I?

Sounds like me, except it was my father I never knew.

Re: Viva la revolucion!

Personal things aside, it will be interesting to see what happens. The U.S. agreed to never invade or attempt to occupy Cuba after one particular incident, I think it was the failed Bay of Pigs invasion. Maybe that sort of thing will hold up and maybe it will not.

Bush'll probably be too hesitant to actually invade Cuba, which is a shame, and I blame all you democrats (here's looking at you Seis ).

Re: Viva la revolucion!

The Bay of Pigs was funded by us, it wasn't actually our invasion so we didn't invade.

It was after the Spanish American war, when Cuba was in the process of being annexed into a principality and they wanted to be an independant country I believe.

gimpo IMs random people when everyone else is asleep, for example, IMing me at 2 in the morning asking for a japanese wrestling game called Fire Pro Wrestling Returns. but you make IMing him seem like a luxury, you say you have nothing to talk about with him, so you just don't talk, and you still IM me about quantum physicians which you could've showed your sienna-brown house maid.

and I don't know anything about Cuba other than their cigars and their cool weapons on Command and Conquer

Re: Viva la revolucion!

God dammit, she's not sienna-brown, she's M&M black. >;[

I wish I had a house big enough for a house maid.

Re: Viva la revolucion!

doctor memory engine...searching...

-you told me not to mention the color "sienna brown" to you because of an incident you had with your [old] maid.
-you told her that her favorite color was probably brown, because she was black
-you got in trouble

Re: Viva la revolucion!

She wasn't really a maid...I don't like that word. It's mroe like a babysitter from 9:30 to 3 until I went to preschool. Don't make it sound like I'm rich. >:C

But just to stay on topic, I'm sure I could have gotten a Cuban maid cheap. ^^

Re: Viva la revolucion!

She didn't clean my house, and my dad sucks.

Could have been rich, had a $700,000 lawsuit going on that lasted like 6 years, but then he lost that. ^^

Well, it doesn't look like Fidel will go anywhere soon... it sounds like he's recovering. I think he's almost 80. Whoa. But internal bleeding can't be a good sign. We'll see.

I'm curious if Raul could pull off a dicatorship. I don't know anything about him. But it sounds like a dynasty in the making.

He might have already died and they're just trying to cover it up.
