Tutorial Request, by me.
Ok, I recently learned that using the slice tool, you can make forum templates, and such. Now, I am requesting a tutorial on how to use the slice tool. and if possible how to code it. although that might be requested in a diff forum.

i can write up a slice tut, but the coding i cant do very well (thats why i use DW!, legit of course ) i been busy a bit lately, havnt had much time for.. anything other than life :-/ life sucks :-\

i suggest learning html yourself. Having photoshop export your images usually ends up in really really really shitty / sloppy coding.

I know some html, no expert on it though. So you suggest, I dont use the slice tool?

i suggest you do use the slice tool for the images, but dont take photoshops html file and use it, code it yourself

And while using the slice tool, dont make small unecessary slices. you can probably do most layouts in like 20 slices or less. And if you want to cut down on loading time, make repeading backgrounds where its applicable. This will also allow your layout to be expanded in the future without using scrollbars in iframes

slice tool produces shitty results in the coding. Just use it to get the images and then code it yourself.

y not just make your template and put it into frontpage??? just do it a step at a time put your background in then eveything else all has to go in invisible tables but it works pretty well

Okay, so my friend julian right. He is in this VisCom class at our school. And hes making a website with all his pictures from europe. And he wanted to make thumbnails of the images which, when clicked, show the whole image. He knew it involved css.

So basically what i did was go in his class, typed 2 minutes of code (css / xhtml) and freaking did his whole 3 week project in 3 minutes. All he has to do now is go add more pictures, because we only added 3 lol.

AND....
to top it off, the teacher was showing off some photoshop tutorials, and mentioned good-tutorials.com. He said pick a random tutorial and try to produce the outcome. I was like, oh damn, my site could be up there right now ><

There's more than one way to skin a cat. The slice tool is handy if you want to visualize your entire interface in PS and implement it once complete. It's quick, painless, and it gets the job done. In the case of your friend's thumbnail images, people without coding experience might want to use PS actions to automate the process instead of trying code it all.

too bad PS cant produce xhtml code for shit, and he had all these photos he had scanned. So yeah, i know you CAN make an image gallery with PS with autogenerated thumbnails, but thats get pretty painful.
