This is an example of a render that I found really quick:

Notice how it is made in C4D, a
rendering program. You can tell because if you made it in Photoshop, you'd either be godly for the skill, or dumb for wasting time when you could pump out a subpar one in two minutes in an actual rendering program. So either way you can just tell it's a render.
It's all a matter of semantics. Most people use the wrong terms to describe this. If some of the old members were still here, or as disgruntled as they were a year ago, they would've been all over your ass for saying it wrong. :S
The point isn't to avoid renders altogether though. But do more work to it so you can't even tell one was even used. Look at doctor's old sigs, he was really good at that type of shit.
Stock images, on the other hand, are simply images used, like pixel art or pictures of things.
It's all just dumb wording, but that isn't the point. The point is getting better.
