yes, but i had no choice in the matter, the host f*cked changed something in the server config near the new year, which caused the old scripts not to work. so i had to choose between a semi-working newer version vs. a non working older one. I chose to switch to the new version, which wasn't very smart as a site decision, but better for people who visit regularly.

For the time, effort and money I've put into this place, I haven't even gotten close to a return worthy of my investment, which is why I try and focus on other projects to offset this one.

Another factor is that Tutorials don't generate nearly as much traffic and revenue as they used to. Adsense and Adwords are flooded with low quality advertisers looking to save money by placing cheaper ads in the system, and the fraudulent clicks means the publishers get less money per click than they used to, so google can cover their ass to pay off the pissed advertisers.

The site is also dieing / dead because of a lack of new content. Jay comes back after several months being gone, and says he has content ready to publish, which is great. But since that time, Its pretty much been a one man show. and I can't do everything on my own, even though I'd like to. Theres managing the forums, controlling spam, doing Search engine analysis and optimization, creating new content, building a publishing system, creating templates and email campaigns (or lack there of), and optimizing ad revenue. I currently do probably 75% of that, and have ditched the new content aspect for the time being.

So, with all that said, think of this site in a Alpha / beta stage. Things aren't finished, and won't be until I can get someone to help me manage and produce content and the site structure itself. Jay used to be there for me back in the good 'ol days of '06, but hes moved on for the most part, and isn't there to bounce ideas off of and get feedback from.

LOL@PAT FOR ANSWERING LIKE A JEW !!! (although I did not read it) but yea for all argumentative purposes aside I agree with FuLou, but yea it was about damn time V3 came out. Although it is very nice, and well appreciated, I at least was unsatisfied at least compared to the beautiful dream jay liked to portray.

Jay wasn't around to help build the dream... we had limited, abstract talks about what was to be, but no concrete examples I could build off of.

Creating pages, dynamic or not, is easy. integrating the forums and user system into them, is easy. Creating a website as a whole, that functions flawlessly, with user interactions, and community feel, is impossible to do alone. Wherein lies the failure of V3.

I've created every single aspect of it.. over 300 templates, 20+ php classes, 50+ php scripts. Several vbulletin mods, ect.


My point is, progress is slow when its a one man show.

True that man. Forums communities are very fickle, when they look bad they become bad. When they look dead, they become dead. It really all comes back to us, the regulars. The site works enough, you can post, browse, look at tutorials, etc. But if it's just us, then it looks dead, and it stays that way. We need to be inviting and producing in order to attract more traffic and keep it.

Have this place come together during summer. It'll get casual viewers, and if it gets good, they'll stick around once school starts (another dryspell in of itself). You just need to bait them and keep them.
And you can't have "old" members be disgruntled, we need actual conversation. Of course this is boring, but it needs to at least appear active in that aspect.


Or, you know, turn this into a porn/music forum like I've always advocated. That works too.

Right, basically we need content, and to be creative.

I'm working on a new publishing system with more of a magazine style / article based approach for the site, which will go live once Jay gets out of school and has more free time to help me finalize things. At that point, we are going to start publishing more content, and drive more traffic our way.

If you're attracting new members, they will not have seen the old tuts. Sure, more are helpful, but it isn't necessarily "new" ones that are key.

I mean, people use deviantart to get their tutorials. They just need a place to show them off. Something to actually stay and come back for, not view the tut once and leave as soon as they learn it.

Maybe I'm thinking wrong, but I just don't see more tuts as the answer. It's just overworking luz as it is.

I meant abstract like, you're not putting it together and releasing issues. But that it kind of develops over time as users publish articles and tutorials for it. I think that if we are all able to create and display things here in a collective and collaborative manner, while encouraging others to join and do the same, it could turn out pretty well.

Though, I'm not sure what you were thinking of doing, or how much user interaction you were expecting on implementing in the final site design. This is just something I came up with, not trying to tell you what to do or anything.
