I'm almost positive what it is. Go to Image > Image Size and make sure the image resolution is at 72. This has happened to me a few times, its quite annoying. All of your images should be at 72 unless your are getting a print made of the image, then use 300.

ohohoh, i have a similar question...
a while ago i was cropping a pic for a school project, and when i cropped it, the size of the image went up to like 3000x2000 or so pixels when it was originally more like 500x300 or so. may i inquire as to wtf was going on?

When you cropped did you use the Crop Tool, or did you use Image > Image Size? If you used image size, I might know what could have happened.

Say your image was 500x300 and you tried to scale it down to somewhere around 200x200 or something. So you put 200 in the height box and 200 in the width box, but you forgot to change it from inches to pixels.

If you used the cropping tool, it could have been your image was much larger than this, just you were zoomed out quite a bit, so when you cropped it the size was actually going down, and zooming in, not going up..

If neither of these where the case, I don't know what to tell you.

OVertone is right about this, you do have to worry about the pixle per cm thing. when the number is larger or smaller then 72, everything gets all funky because its sort of a scale factor. For example, if I am using a size 12 font in a resolution 72 document eveything is normal, but if I use that same font, with a higher resolution, the fonts will be larger, because the font is also composed of pixles.

So just think 72=1 in scale factor, and wala your all set (this is in the INSTRUCTION MANUAL that no one has because they didnt buy it :P god I feel so odd knowing i am the only one who has his own copy)

Anyways, Kno, you must have had it in inches, because that is the only thing that makes sence with that sanario
