God.. The background (intermediate)
Okay I got this tutorial from www.designz.key-faith.com
I am changing it using my own brushes that I made.
These brushes are located here
Step 1
Open a new document. I will be using a 400 x 100 one. Pick any two colors for your foreground and background colors and select the linear gradient tool. make a gradient on the canvas.

Step 2
make a new layer and select this brush and set it to size 90-100
Step 3
click on brushes in the top right corner of photoshop and apply these settings
http://img52.echo.cx/img52/1844/step36hw.th.jpg
Step 4
with the brush press d on the keyboard and make the main color white by pressing the switch button.. now apply faint brushing on the layer making it thicker where you want lighting to be coming from.
http://img52.echo.cx/img52/5837/step44ji.jpg
set this layer to soft light and make the opacity 35-40 percent.
Step 5
make a new layer and using the same brush tool.. make it thicker than before and more jumbled up. also make sure to have it thicker where you want the lighting to be coming from
http://img52.echo.cx/img52/7590/step59yn.jpg
now go to filter-blur-gaussian blur and set it to 14.7 percent. now to go to edit-fade blur and set it to 61 percent. Set this layer to overlay and make it's opacity 75 percent
Step 6
Make a new layer and add faint brushing like before. When done go to layer styles and add an outer glow. make the blending type soft light and set its opacity to 100 percent
http://img52.echo.cx/img52/6884/step61uj.jpg
Step 7
make a color balance layer ans set the settings to whatever you want. try experiment to get what you like the best
Fin
final results of this can be seen in my sig with added brushing over the stock
HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE
